Global Blocking of Referrers and Spammers |
|
Bad referrers can be added (by hostname) to a global blacklist maintained by Tucows. This blacklist relies on Reseller input. Should blacklisted referrers attempt to reach Blogware blogs from blocked hosts, they will receive an 'access denied' message. Blacklisted referrers will also be automatically purged from referrer statistics.
Global blacklist
Tucows will add hostnames and IP addresses submitted by Resellers to the global blacklist. By including all contributions from all Resellers, the global blacklist will be comprehensive and dynamically updated.
The anti-spam functionality also checks for IP addresses or hostnames that have an unusually high number of visits per day and that are indicative of a Spam BOT. These IP addresses or hostnames are added to the blacklist automatically.
All trackbacks from blacklisted hostnames will be automatically purged from blogs.
Global whitelist
IP addresses and hostnames of key sites (for example, Google.com or a Reseller’s homepage) are added to a whitelist. This ensures that these sites are not blocked even if they are placed on the blacklist.
Global keyword list
The blogging system now maintains a spam keyword list. This list contains all of the typical "spam" words and is updated as the spam-world evolves. All trackbacks and comments are checked against these keywords as part of the automatic spam trackback and comment checks.
